The Draft Is Done...Washington Nationals Discussion Thread.

I can now sleep. I'll have writeups on all the drafts individually by team starting on Friday, looking at them for a combination of talent, draft value in terms of where they got certain players, and also for signability. Mixed in with those writeups will be some discussion questions, flashes on draft signings, and once the pro short-season leagues begin, updates on how picks are doing. I'll also be updating regularly on summer collegiate leagues and showcases over the summer, so don't leave this blog just yet.

This blog will be your year-round resource for draft information. Thanks for participating in the live chats in the first two days, and now that it's all over, stick around and get some insight into how teams approached this draft, how their drafts graded out, and some good info on the individual picks themselves.

As for now, here's an open thread on the first team's draft I will review, the Washington Nationals.

Outside of Steven Strasburg, how did they do?

I’ll defer to your judgment. Among the deihards, the buzz is that Bryce Harper appears to be serious about the gED, going to Southern Nevada Junior College and entering next year’s draft. Let the cry go up: “Continue to Suck! Continue to Suck!”

Strasburg – duh

Storen – meh. I know you have to go with a signable guy here, but I’m wary of moving a reliever to a starter. I know Storen has the arsenal to theoretically make the move, but its still a risk asking to increase his workload by so much. Seems like there would have been some decent signable guys with more upside – would Bobby Borchering have been an easy sign? Tim Wheeler? Chad Jenkins? I like them all a lot more than Storen.

Kobernus – solid, but unspectacular pick. Considering their budget and their barren system I suppose it makes sense to get a safe pick in.

Morris – I really don’t like him (probably because I went to KU!) Heavy workload, not sure he can develop a third pitch, rose quickly in one year.

Honestly, much of the rest of their draft are guys I am not familiar with at all. That Roberto Perez, a shortstop from Puerto Rico, looks intriguing.

I guess underwhelming is how I’d put their draft, although I suppose they have to dole out a lot of money for Strasburg, which won’t leave much for the rest of the draft.

This draft can be summed up in one word. Strasburg.

The other higher-dollar picks (Storen & Kobernus) are reaches (completely justifiable) and Holder is a senior… Storen’s not bad, but he’s not a legit #10.

This draft is all Strasburg.
